Omplasseringshjelpen for katter looks after the information you give us. This page explains what personal data we process, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have.

Data controller

Omplasseringshjelpen for katter (org. no. 934 493 141), Bingenveien 130, 1860 Trøgstad, Norway. Questions about privacy: ohfkatter@gmail.com.

What we collect, and why

Contact form

Your name, email, phone number (optional) and message, so we can reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).

Surrendering a cat

Your name, email, phone and details about the cat. If we take the cat in, we keep the previous owner's name and contact details with the cat's records so we can follow its history and health. Legal basis: performing our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).

Adoption applications

Your name, contact details and what you tell us about your home. If you adopt, we keep your name and contact details with the cat, for example to transfer the microchip. Legal basis: preparing and performing the adoption agreement (Art. 6(1)(b)).

Neutering follow-up

If you adopt a kitten that isn't neutered yet, we send email reminders and a link where you can upload the vet's receipt. The proof is stored privately, visible only to administrators, and deleted once the neutering is confirmed. Legal basis: the adoption agreement (Art. 6(1)(b)).

Newsletter

Your email address and language. We only send the newsletter after you confirm your sign-up. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every newsletter.

Volunteers

Your name, email, phone and application details, plus your shifts, journal entries, checklists and notice board posts. Your phone number is shown to other volunteers on the shift plan so you can swap shifts. If you allow notifications in the app, we store an anonymous device code to deliver them. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in organising volunteer work (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Visit statistics

We count visits to see which cats get attention and where visitors come from. We store only the page, the referring site or campaign (e.g. Google or Facebook) and the time. We don't store IP addresses, browser details or anything that identifies you, and we don't use cookies for this. A small marker in your browser's sessionStorage, cleared when you close the tab, prevents counting the same page twice.

Cookies

We don't use cookies for tracking, statistics or advertising. We only use cookies that the site needs to work: keeping volunteers and administrators logged in, and remembering your language if you switch. These don't require consent under the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act § 3-15.

How long we keep data

  • Enquiries (contact, surrender and adoption applications) are deleted automatically 12 months after they are closed.
  • Neutering proof is deleted once the neutering is confirmed.
  • Previous and new owner details stored with a cat are kept as long as we need them to follow up the cat. Contact us if you want them deleted.
  • Newsletter: after you unsubscribe, we keep a note that you've opted out so you aren't added again by mistake. Ask us and we'll delete your address entirely.
  • Volunteers: your account is kept while you volunteer. Tell us when you stop and we'll delete it. Journal entries remain, without your name.

Who processes data for us

  • Supabase – database, login and file storage.
  • Vercel – hosting. IP addresses may be processed briefly in technical logs for security and troubleshooting.
  • Resend – sending email.
  • Apple – delivering notifications to the volunteer app.

Some of these are US companies. Transfers rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We never sell personal data or share it with others unless required by law.

Your rights

You can ask for access to your data, and have it corrected or deleted. You can also ask us to restrict processing, object to it, or receive your data in a common format. You can withdraw consent at any time. Email ohfkatter@gmail.com and we'll reply within 30 days. You can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.

Changes

We update this policy when we change how we process personal data. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
