Surrendering a cat
Do you have a cat that needs rehoming? Send us a message using the form below, or contact us on Facebook or by email with information about the cat:
- Name
- Age
- Neutered, microchipped or fully vaccinated
- What kind of home you think would suit them
If the cat is older than 5 years, we'd like you to show a recent health check and dental cleaning from a vet. Older cats are usually the most expensive for us to follow up at the vet, and a recent check gives us an idea of the costs. We want to turn away as few cats as possible — help us make that possible.
When handing over the cat, remember its health booklet/card if it has one.
Does it cost anything to surrender a cat?
We understand that life happens and money can be tight, but covering all vet costs isn't free for us either. We therefore charge an intake fee of 250 NOK per person, whether you hand in 1 or 5 cats. We still encourage donating more towards vet costs if you can.
If the cat is microchipped, the owner pays the re-registration fee at Dyre-ID (401 NOK).
What happens after the cat arrives?
The cat gets about a week to settle in before its first vet appointment. During this week it receives deworming and tick/flea treatment if needed. If the cat is very shy, we don't rush the appointment.
At the appointment the cat is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated (whatever is missing), and gets a health check.
If the cat isn't fully vaccinated on arrival, it stays with us for at least 4 weeks before moving to a new home, as we only rehome fully vaccinated cats. If it's already neutered, chipped and vaccinated, we try to find a new home as quickly as possible.
Our intake facility
We have 4 double enclosures (140 × 120 × 240 cm) for 2 cats living together, or a litter of kittens ready for rehoming, equipped with shelves, climbing towers, litter boxes, food and water.
We also have 10 single enclosures (130 × 120 × 120 cm) for one cat each, which can be opened up into doubles when needed.
Volunteers work in shifts: the cats get clean litter, food and fresh water twice a day, plus wet food after the evening shift. Cats that want to, and have had their first vaccine, can roam the house during shifts.
